| Customer Reviews: Most of the world's ships April 30, 2000 David Schure 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I enjoyed this book. It all most of the world's ships. But alittle short on warships. It is a good companion to my other Shipbooks I got such as Encyclopedia of Ships and Lore of the Ship. But this one has some more sail ships. The is one of the best ship books on sail ships. It has ships from the Roman Empire. About 5 Roman ships including Roman Traders, Roman Merchantman and Roman Trieme. So if you want one of the best ship books on merchant, civilian and sailing ships. Then this is the book for you. If you want more naval ships. Recommended is Jane's Ships of Fighting Ships of World War II, Conways All the World's Battleships 1906 to the Present and from Barnes and Nobles Encyclopedia of Ships.

Superficial for an Encyclopedia December 14, 2009 Marco Antonio Abarca (Colorado) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There will always be people who want to know how a Bagagna is different that a three-masted, lanteen rigged Felucca. This book will give the reader a superficial answer that will probably satisfy. Unfortunately, Graham Blackburn's simplistic line drawings and paragraph long descriptions will dissapoint serious boat enthusiasts. An illustrated encyclopedia of books and ships is a great idea and there have to be better books than this one.
not deep July 4, 2008 Enrique Bozzo (Montevideo, Uruguay) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
this book covers a great variety of ships in a very superficial way, not all of them accurately, as for example the Viking ships.
Most of it is a childish drawing and a description of one line.
